We have to cultivate contentment with what we have. We really don’t need much. When you know this, the mind settles down. Cultivate generosity. Delight in giving. Learn to live lightly. In this way, we can begin to transform what is negative into what is positive. This is how we start to grow up." ~ Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo

About...

I'm Katey  - a wife, mother and high school history teacher.

It's no secret that living a lifestyle and daily outdoor activity improves overall health and fosters a love of nature - in both kids and adults. What better way to encourage this development than to take a walk in the woods! Or plant a garden! For me, doing anything outdoors is a win-win. I get to spend time with my awesome 9-year old, Ellison, and we both get to stay healthy and happy.

Together we visit the state's (and world's!) incredible natural areas - hopefully encouraging others, especially young girls, to get outside and explore. Whether you're new to the outdoor lifestyle or a skilled wilderness warrior, you are welcome at Girls in the Park.  While epic adventures are amazing (and we hope to share a few!), Girls in the Park is more about the idea of making the outdoors a part of your life in any way you can.

It doesn't always have to be a long trip to an exotic location - sometimes a simple backyard picnic is all you need. Ellison and I are down with anything that gets us outside and active.

Sharing our experiences with you is a way for us to combine our love of nature with something creative and fun. Living in Florida, we have access to some of the most beautiful and diverse natural landscapes in the world and Ellison and I are determined to experience them all. We hope you'll stay awhile and follow along as we enjoy what the world has to offer, as well as share with us your own adventures. We'd love to hear what you and your family are up to in the outdoors!
